Tea Time At Noon
Tea Time At Noon is a going to be a beautiful still life of a floral arrangement and a tea set which I set up myself one day when I was feeling creative. The table is covered in a lace tablecloth. There is a crystal clock with the hand pointing at 12. A silver tea set and a beautiful china tea cup are placed on the table. A beautiful vase with an oriental bird painted on it is holding white roses with pink tips, purple hydrangeas, and irises. When this painting is finished, it will be stunning. I plan to enter this work into a flower painting competition when it is finished.
Subject layout and Photo Sessio
This is one of the many photos I am using as a base for my still life. This photo represents the basic layout of the painting itself. Photo was taken in my art studio for the sole purpose of artwork creation.
Several close up shots were taken of all the items and different angles of the floral arrangement. A piece of cloth was placed behind to experiment with possible backgrounds. This shot was focused on the crystal clock to capture needed details.
It may look like I am rich because of these items. Don’t be fooled. Most of them I purchased from a nearby thrift store. If you want subject matter for a still life you are painting and don’t want to pay a lot of money for beautiful things, schedule a visit to a thrift store and look through the bric a brac. Sometimes you find beautiful items for your painting and it won’t hurt your wallet.
Beginning Stages
Beginning Stage: Objects are Roughly Drawn on canvas. Magic White is applied over entire canvas. Basic shapes are outlined.
Beginning Stage: Teapot is receiving it’s first layers to give it depth and definition.
Beginning Stage: Background base color is applied. Ultramarine blue mixed with titanium white and a small tiny touch of crimson red. A darker color will be added later to make a rich background. Roses and leafs begin to receive basic outlines and shape.
Beginning stage: Oriental Vase is started. Special attention is given to details and artwork on the vase. The vase at this stage is in it’s middle stage. It is almost finished.
Almost finished!
The painting is coming along nicely. Almost all objects have been given basic definition and smaller details are being applied to most objects. This painting is nearing completion, but still needs many more layers and detail work before it is complete.
The teapot is quite a challenge. I am still layering and experimenting with it to make it look as real and 3D as possible. Work still needs to be started on the handle and feet of the teapot and most of the silver tea set. Lace pattern on the tablecloth is applied using a paper doily and contrasting grey color.
These last two photos were taken 03/28/2010.
